Bay of Islands New Zealand: Complete Family Travel Guide
Imagine a place where 144 tropical islands are scattered through crystal-clear waters, where dolphins play in the bay, and where families can experience both adventure and tranquility in equal measure. Welcome to the Bay of Islands, New Zealand. This is a destination that first captured my heart when I was just 12 years old and remains one of our family’s favourite places on earth. We’re fortunate to have called the tiny town of Paihia home for a year before we moved abroad to Australia.

A Personal Connection to Paradise
This place holds a special place in my heart. I first visited Paihia at age 12 and immediately fell in love with this beautiful town. I dreamed of living in that idyllic place, though for a long time my own limitations held me back. I thought it was only a place the rich could live. It was one of the first places my heart deeply desired to reside in.
After separating from my oldest children’s father, I took a coastal drive and arrived in Paihia. During my short stay there, I made a life-changing decision to move to this idyllic town and start our lives fresh. It was an amazing move, and one I look back on as something that changed our lives for the better.
The Bay of Islands isn’t just a travel destination for us. It’s a place where dreams can come true, where families can find peace, and where new beginnings are possible. For me, it was the beginning of my journey to understand I was the biggest limitation in my life. There are so many amazing places here, and I’m excited to share this beautiful part of New Zealand with you.
