When it Feels like Life is Trying to Stop you From Living your Dreams

Back in late 2014 or early 2015 hubby and I decided we would go and live in Spain for a year. As I started researching, I learned about worldschooling and slow travel. Our dream of Spain evolved into traveling the world with our two children.

I was working as a travel agent, and we planned to save enough to travel one or two years and figure it out along the way. In late 2015 I found out I was pregnant. I thought, 'Ohh wow, now we can travel on my maternity leave'...

Here's a Facebook Live I did about
this topic in 2021

Then baby number three didn't sleep (at all). I was a sleep deprived zombie.

My hubby had a work accident that had him off work for months. That accident turned into legal issues which prevented us from moving away from Australia.

We didn't set off on our travels in 2016. Or 2017. Or 2018.

In 2018 we moved house (still in Australia), to a beautiful beach where I could've stayed forever. It was a pretty ideal lifestyle.

In 2019, hubby discovered that people do make money online, and he finally committed to moving abroad. In late 2019, we bought our tickets.

In late 2019 Australia suffered the worst fires - I worried it was a bad omen or something, like the world was saying I should've already gone by now.

As if things couldn't get worse, rains and floods followed the fires. While we were trying to sell everything and leave. It felt like everything was stopping us from going.

The torrential flooding became a state of emergency in NSW, Australia. Early February, 2020. That was the week we finally started full time travel. We returned to our home country, New Zealand, for one month (we'd lived in Australia ten years). In that time we did a road trip from the South Island to the North Island and caught up with our family.

On 5th March, 2020, we departed New Zealand for Vietnam.

Now Covid was a thing, and about a week after arriving, well, we all remember mid March. It was insane. I was thinking HOW ON EARTH can all this be trying to stop me from my dreams?!

Anyway, we were brave, and decided to stay in Vietnam. It turned out amazing. We travelled all of 2020 around Vietnam. In 2021 we discovered we were pregnant with number 4. We still couldn't get into our country of citizenship, so we moved to Turkey, then Greece and birthed baby number 4 in Spain on a tourist visa.

I think sometimes these hold ups are testing our commitment to our dreams. Hold onto them. Don't let them go. You'll love the life you create, and you'll look back on those hurdles as the challenges you had to go through to create a rewarding (and often challenging) life. It's never easy, I don't think any version of life that is worth living is easy. Just keep focused on your dreams. ✨

My Favourite Web Hosting Company

I started building websites in 2015. Since then I’ve tried a lot of different hosting companies. Siteground is the only one I recommend, and it is also recommended by my favourite travel bloggers!
